Drunk Stuntmen: State Fair ... Available soon in Stores Hiya Kids -
To all of the members of the Stunt Nation who have supported us during the course of the last fifteen years ...
You saw us at Butterfield Dorm when we were so young we were still trying to figure which end of the razor to use. We cooked your eggs, took your orders and washed your dishes at the Iron Horse. We did the same at Cha Cha Cha. We stir fried your Pad Thai and Green Curry noodles with seitan and extra peanuts at Amber Waves. We played for you at your company picnic, your wedding, your birthday. We rocked you at Kendrick Place, The Red Barn, Katrina's, The Iron Horse. Then we started to branch out. You saw us on the East Coast and the West Coast and points in between. You saw us up north in the White Mountains, down South in Key West, Daytona Beach, Puckett's Farm Equipment, Sadlacks. Chapel Hill, at the Florabama on the Florida panhandle Some of you saw us in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, not NY. You come back time and time again to see us at the Narrows, The Rodeo Bar, Bourne Scenic Park, and of course Oktoberfest at the Hyland Brewery.
You got into a bidding war over purchasing Bow Bow's bass. We saw Phish and Willie Nelson, with you. We even took in a Red Sox game or two. You supported us through 4 albums. You even saw some of us on Ellen and Leno. You are everywhere in the world at this point. Perhaps the first time you saw us was the most recent gig we played at the Roadhouse.
Some of you have voiced concerns both in person and on the message board that you can not get a copy of State Fair. We are no longer going to be selling it on DSM.com. The only way you can get it is through our distributor and our distributor needs a kick in the arse getting the product out to you. If you can believe this, our fifth and best produced and most diverse album is sitting idle in a warehouse waiting for you to come and get it. Despite great reviews such as the one in the final issue of No Depression or by Kevin O'Hare a nationally syndicated reviewer for Newhouse News Service, literally, there is no demand for the album, therefore the distributor is not shipping it.
In the summertime, when I was a kid, a weekly ritual for myself, my brother and my father was to pile into the brown Ford station wagon and go to Lechmere's. There we would spend hours in their record department. I was partial to the Beatles, Skynrd and the Who. My brother was looking for music with good keys, Emerson Lake and Palmer, ELO, Traffic, Head East, Steely Dan, Big Bands and Jazz. Dad could also be found in the Jazz section checking out Dave Brubeck, the Australian Jazz Quartet, or looking for the latest Dylan album. Guess what folks? That is what you are going to have to do if you want State Fair. Not only do you have to go the the record store (Barnes and Noble, FYE, Circuit City, etc. Everywhere but Wal-Mart) but, you have to ask them to order it for you.
I know, it seems like a lot of work. I guess you can order it online from Barnes and Noble, but we need to get this disc in the stores, so the uninitiated future Stuntfans can have something tangible and colorful to look at to entice them into our world. It is You, the Stunfan, is who is going to make that happen. We need your support more than ever.
There is something happening out there. You know it, you can feel it. You feel it every time you buy gas for chrissakes. But it doesn't have to be this way. Music is the most civilized and soul enriching route for escapism available. Of course, the best form is live music, but the next best thing is to plug in those headphones, crank that baby up to 11 and let her rip.
There is a great cartoon on the cover of New Yorker Magazine, this week. The owner of a bookstore is turning the key in the lock to his establishment as he watches the apartment dweller, in the next doorway receive a box from a UPS driver. It is a box that looks suspiciously like the kind you would get from Amazon or some other online book, music seller. Get the piksh?
I'm sure everyone is aware of the success of the Fox Searchlight release Young @ Heart. If you liked what you saw and want to see more, check out Drunk Stuntmen and the Young At Heart Chorus Back To Back. This DVD documents the historic pairing of these two unique groups during a group of shows in Northampton and Springfield, MA. The DVD was recorded at the Academy of Music. You can check out a clip on the front page of this website. The DVD is available on this site as well as Filmbaby.com
Wednesday Night, June 4th, we are at the Sportsmen's Tavern in Buffalo, NY. Then we head to Kingston, NY for a Show at the Basement. From there it is on to Philadelphia for a gig at the Dawson St. Pub. We round out the weekend on Saturday with the home field advantage as we finish the trip at the Narrows Center for the Arts in Fall River. Check the tour dates for more information.
It is just a suggestion but as always we encourage you to ...
Do Your Own Stunts!
